Rebel Ridge (2024)
The verdict
A gripping thriller about power meeting power. It does exactly what it came to do, and it does it well.

Aaron Pierre carries this one on presence alone, and yes, I'm saying it. The man is beautiful to look at. But he acts too. You can see what becomes the Lanterns version of him peeking through in places, or maybe that's just him. Same guy, different accent.
The movie is filed under civil asset forfeiture, and while lawful theft is in there, but that's not really all it's about. It's police corruption at a bigger scale. It's about fighting people who abuse their power with the only power you've got. The message lands harder than the premise sounds.
It's pretty good, not extraordinary. But not every movie has to be.
“John Stewart before he was John Stewart.”
